Please, do not let cost be your primary consideration. The issue is first “do I need this retreat” – if the answer is yes, trust God to provide for the expense. Kidology does not budget any profit or margin into this event. In fact, it costs Kidology significantly to do this event, but we desire to invest deeply in a small group of pastors. Many of the expenses to Kidology to create and host this event are not included in the registration fee. It is a costly endeavor, but we are seeking to creatively keep the cost to a minimum but without sacrificing the purpose of the retreat, or the needs of the guys to have a comfortable and refreshing time. (For example, yes, camping would be cheaper… but this is a sabbatical, not survival training! So we stay at a nice lodge and eat great food.)
Lodging Costs:
Two Nights of lodging in Sacramento are NOT included – it is shared based on number of rooms needed, and whether guys arrive in Sacramento or meet in Yosemite. (Estimate is usually $50-75 per night or less.)
Included is four nights of lodging in Yosemite at a very nice lodge. No, we are NOT camping!
All transportation is included during the retreat, and most meals. Do not rent a car! We will pick you up at the airport (SAC) and drop you off!
Included Meals:
Saturday: Guys MUST arrive by Saturday afternoon/evening. While no meals are included, we go out to eat together. In-N-Out Burger is usually the “Big Event” for lunch and a restaurant such as Red Robin or Chili’s for dinner for those who have arrived by those meals.
Sunday: Breakfast is free at hotel; Lunch en route we will stop for as well as Starbucks for the final latte, and then a very special dinner on our way into Yosemite. Attendees will each pay for their own food.
Sunday night through Thursday morning: All meals included. There is a full kitchen at the lodge. Breakfast and dinner are at the lodge. We prepare our meals. For lunches we pack sack lunches, with a variety of delicious options.
Thursday: Breakfast and Lunch on the road heading to air port.
Snacks/Drinks: While basic drinks and snacks are provided, guys are encouraged on our Walmart run to stock up on their favorite snacks or drinks so they can have what they like in their sack lunches or while hiking.
Additional expenses:
Airfare to/from event. (We will have a group van during the retreat and will pick you up if you fly into Sacramento airport. If you drive to Sacramento, plan to leave car, or end rental there and travel with the group. You can do a separate car rental to drive home.)
If you are flying in, please use Sacramento International Airport (SMF). If this is not a possibility please discuss options with Karl before making any final plans. For the best relational experience it is ideal to join the event from the very beginning when the new friendship begin. Arriving late or via another route greatly hinders the initial group bonding.
*Airport runs are provided as long as arrival and departure are within the windows provided. Super early or late night airport runs may require a cab/shuttle/uber.
The registration fee, obviously, does not include any personal equipment needed for hiking in Yosemite. We need to pack light and smart, and a detailed list of what to bring (and not bring) is posted on the BRING page.
